Christopher Estes, MD, MPH, IFMCP is an ISEAI Full Member and the co-owner of Miami Beach Comprehensive Wellness Center.
What is your primary field of work, your specialties, and unique perspective on environmental health?
The Miami Beach Comprehensive Wellness Center was founded by my wife, Emily T. Rowe, MD, AP, IFMCP, and I in 2017. Our patient population includes the entire spectrum of medical diagnoses: from chronic pain, cardiovascular disease and neurological disorders to autoimmunity, inflammatory bowel diseases and chronic fatigue to cancer. While the conventional medical system may view this variety of diagnoses as completely unrelated, we see the common thread among all of them: the environment from which they arise.
For us, ‘environment’ means much more than the food we eat, the air we breathe and the water we drink. It is also the presence, or absence, of other life forms inside of us, the relationships we have in our lives, our spiritual experiences, energetic constitution and the influence of the cosmos which comprise the totality of our existence as human beings. Without consideration of all these things simultaneously, the path towards health remains obstructed and incomplete.
We have developed our practice through extensive professional education and personal experience. The initiator of this path was truly personal – we were sick, my wife Emily especially so, and conventional medicine was either consistently failing, or had nothing to offer.
We practice truly integrated medicine. From our background in functional medicine, we assess the biochemistry and physiology of the physical body, searching for clues to underlying pathologies. From environmental medicine, we search for toxins, infections and allergens which perpetuate cycles of dysfunction in every body system. We utilize a diverse set of tools to assess and address these issues- advanced laboratory assessment, lifestyle change, medications, nutraceuticals, intravenous therapies, ozone therapies, platelet rich plasma and stem cell therapies.
Using multiple traditions from Classical Chinese Medicine we seek to harmonize body energetics with diet, acupuncture and herbs. We balance fields with quantum biofeedback. We perform sound healing through the Acutonics® system combined with Shamanism to guide individuals on their path through powerful change and growth.
In Chinese, the word for Shaman is ‘wu’ 巫. The central line connects Heaven above and the Earth below. On both sides of the connecting line is the character ‘ren’ 人which means ‘Person’. This means that a Shaman is someone who can move between two realities – existing on both sides of the line between Heaven and Earth. This is how we practice: walking between ALL realities which exist simultaneously in the present moment.
In our practice, it is not unusual for a patient to have interpretation of laboratory results, dietary and supplement recommendations, an intravenous nutritional therapy and a sound healing session, all during the same visit.
We believe the future of integrated medicine is to raise the consciousness of all healthcare providers: physicians, advanced practice clinicians, nurses, psychologists, physical and massage therapists, acupuncturists and energy workers of all disciplines. We are sharing our approaches through online educational events with a broad community of healers from all of these disciplines. In this diverse setting, everyone gains new knowledge and perspectives as we learn from the latest medical research to rekindling the gifts of ancient wisdom.
